Greensboro, NC’s Gya, pronounced “JAH,” is back with a new, independent EP entitled “Healing In Harmony.”

The five-track project is the latest from the indie artist this year. Gya is also a native of Stone Mountain, GA, and sticks close to the East Coast, Southern sound through his new work. He’s known for his fusion of various sounds, which makes his voice and style authentic. Through the EP, he aims to uplift his goal of peace and positivity through music.

“Healing In Harmony” is more than a newly released EP from Gya. The project depicts what’s to come from such a versatile artist. Gya’s sound in itself is a unique and exponential force. With roots in southern, underground music, Gya’ can tap into more than rap. His vocal range gives him the wiggle room to play around with various pitches and melodies, as you hear in R&B and Neo Soul genres.

The extended project includes five songs that flow well from one track to the next. The production choice is clutch, amplifying Gya’s creative ability and pushing past the current, repetitive trends within the mainstream Hip-Hop world. The solo guitar, coupled with Gya’s more vulnerable and heartfelt singing vocals on “Let Me Say Goodbye,” is one example of his ability to push the envelope of originality. With tracks like the EP intro, “Fly Home Blue Bird,” listeners get another taste of Gya’s vocality with a simpler, more assertive stance through the lyrics and style of production selection.

Gya’ is sure of himself, which opens the doors for a more playful, airy sound when it comes to his raps. It’s almost as if he’s floating regarding tracks like “Carolina Baby” that showcase his ability to create a bop for the ladies but for a more upbeat occasion, specifically. “Carolina Baby” is also a dynamic track; you can feel Gya’s smile and literal laughter as you listen to the catchy hook. The track is produced well and fits the personality of the entire work.

In other tracks like “July 3rd,” though the track is labeled as a freestyle, some clean structural elements complement the off-the-dome aspect showcased by Gya. The sample-style production and attention to flow and delivery carry this track. The storytelling wordplay is also an ingredient that is reminiscent of the foundation of rap, which Gya does well here.

“Let Myself Free,” is southern down to the producer stems. Giving listeners that 90’s spin with simple guitar and bassline. A beat you could hear Outkast take over with ease, “Let Myself Free,” is what this project is about. Stepping into what’s to come now, Gya’s sound is more solidified yet authentic to his roots.

Overall, the project aims to be fun, peaceful, and positive. Each song is worth a listen. Gya recently celebrated the release of the “Healing In Harmony” EP by curating his first outdoor listening event, which showcased the project to an audience in Charlotte, NC.

“Healing In Harmony” is out now and available on all streaming platforms.
